Former Student Government official plans run for student body president
By DEVIN CULCLASURE, Alligator Writer
A former Student Government official has become the first to throw his hat in the race for next year's Student Body president.
Jason Lutin, a first-year UF law student, said he is planning to run for the position, which will be decided in the spring election.
As a UF undergraduate, Lutin served as SG's lobby coordinator, a position now known as external affairs director.

As a UF undergraduate, Lutin served as SG's lobby coordinator, a position now known as external affairs director.
As lobby coordinator, Lutin said he helped develop the Academic Enhancement Program, a plan to raise tuition, with the UF administration while gaining familiarity with local, state and federal politics.
He said his SG experience also includes a nearly three-year tenure in the Student Senate.
Lutin said he had always considered running for president as an undergraduate and added that his experiences taught him to look at the big picture.
"I don't think individual promises work," he said.
As part of his big-picture focus, Lutin said his platform would primarily focus on providing a good education for UF students.
"There's a difference between student complaints and SG complaints," he said. "SG is angry about X-Y-Z clubs spending this much money, but 95 percent of the student population doesn't care."
His other platform priorities would be reforming student services, including areas of UF's transportation and parking office and then reforming student organizations, he said.
Lutin said he was not sure if he would run with the Gator Party, which currently controls SG's executive and legislative branches, or with another party.
As president, Lutin said he would also continue to maintain the close relationship with the UF administration he developed as lobby coordinator.
"Ultimately, the decision lies with the administration, and we have to work well with them," he said. "It's very important to be part of the conversation. You may not like what they talk about, but at least talk about it."

" Do you know those two at all? Day and Cruts don't really care about FBK either way. They'll apply again in the Spring, get grad-tapped and nothing in their lives will change. Don't be bitter that they managed to succeed by supporting a good President. "

" Jason Lutin deserves to be the president. He is very involved and even after graduation still has his mind set on doing the best for UF. He may look a little goofy, but who cares. Hes a candidate with a lot of potential "

" I support Lutin - he is very knowledgable about government and really cares about our school. I have known him for about 3 years and he is always telling me about the huge projects he is working on and how its his goal to improve UF.
He gets my vote! "

" We very excite that Jason run for president! Wrinkly clothes he wear everyday no good for campaigning or candidate. Much business for us! "

" Its about time some one with real ideas steped up! Lutin sees the big picture and will just get the job done and doesnt care what other people think (which can clearly be seen by the way he matches his clothes) "

" Lutin was a system guy (he was a TEP in undergrad -- matters less in law school) but this doesn't sound like he's a system candidate now. System candidates don't declare until they've organized a big launch ceremony at some house. Plus he's just an odd pick overall, having been out of the game for a year, and a bit of an outsider besides. "

" Dude -- are you serious? Nobody's been injured here. A young man who sounds like he's given a lot of his time to SG is considering running for SBP.
If you're really that sad about it, I suggest you find some perspective. "
