Last week, I became the proud owner of 34 new books.
Maybe “new” isn’t totally accurate, but they were all new for me.
This past week, the Friends of the Library had its bi-annual book sale. Although the sale is unfortunately over, the key word in the last sentence is bi-annual meaning the group will have another sale in the spring.
I’m not trying to promote this sale, I just wanted to share my personal experiences with it.
The group has had more than 500,000 books. Just imagine how hard, but also awesome, it was for me to browse all the books.
The most I spent on a book was $2. Most items were under $4.
All of the books were donated and were sold at a discounted rate to raise money for the Alachua County Library District and its community literacy projects.
Not only were books cheap, but I was also helping a good cause. It was a win-win.
Sales like this are the reason I’m able to have so many books. I rarely buy books at full price.
People think you need to have a lot of money to have lots of books, but that could not be farther from the truth.
I went back to the sale on three separate days because they were always updating and bringing more books that could not originally fit on the shelves.
The last day I visited the sale, all books were half priced. This wasn’t even the best day. The final day of the sale, all books were 10 cents.
I visited the sale with my roommate on half-price day, she looked in disbelief when her eight books totaled out to $3.75.
My 15 books came out to be $7.88.
The look on my roommate’s face is the reason I think it’s important to tell people about this sale. She was in utter disbelief to find some many books at affordable prices.
I am glad I was able to help provide that joy to her, and I’m counting down the days until the spring sale.
