A sea of “jorts” and barely there tops flood the swamp. Orange and blue are the only colors that can be seen for miles. It’s a Gator gameday.
Aside from game day festivities like tailgating, one of the funniest things to do is just sit down and people watch. Some of the crazier characters emerge from the swamp during this time, along with some equally questionable attire. There’s no doubting how hot Gainesville can get during those first few games of the season but that is not an excuse for fans to look like even hotter messes. For every fan that is dressed well, there are always two that completely miss the mark. Keeping it classy on game day isn’t hard, you just need the right Gator garb.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell if people are trying to look ridiculous or if they’re just “fashion handicapped.” For the first set, there’s no changing them. Once the excitement of the game takes them away, there’s no coming back. In their mind, the more outrageous the better. As for the latter, they just need some guidance.
As much as it pains me to say this, Gator fans are pretty famous for their wearing of “jorts” (cut-off jeans that are made into shorts). Of course it’s fun to don a pair every once in awhile, but don’t make a habit of it. There are so many cute orange and blue shorts to wear that look better than a pair of tattered cut-offs.
Another way to have fun with game day gear is by accessorizing. This is a simple way to get your fill of orange and blue without having to dress in it head to toe. On a sunny day out, try rocking a pair of gator-themed sunglasses. Or if you’re planning on going to a game day party grab a cute clutch or bag to complement the rest of your outfit. And of course there’s the jewelry — so many bangles, bracelets, necklaces and earrings to choose from that won’t leave you drowning in orange and blue. Sometimes little accents are what work best.
The great thing about having accessories or separates that are Gator colors is that they can also be integrated into other outfits when it’s not a game day. Having versatility in a wardrobe is very useful.
