Review: Stephenie Meyer's 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Pt. 1' follows series of bad acting

This past weekend, thousands of teens stood shivering in the November wind as they anxiously shuffled towards the box office to retrieve tickets to yet another "Twilight" film opening. Some attended to see the book they spent days poring over come to life on screen. Others were simply joining yet another movie-franchise hype. A few were mothers and daughters bonding over a mutual affinity for dazzlingly attractive men and innocent love stories. Then there were the occasional sniggering hecklers ready to mock Kristen Stewart's awkward acting, Robert Pattinson's uncomfortable sneer and Taylor Launter's notorious shirtless scenes.

For whatever reason, entire waves of people came to see "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Pt. 1." What they saw was what anyone could expect from any Twilight film. They all seem to become progressively worse with every installment. Then again, there isn't much to work with considering the absolutely deplorable plot and writing of each novel. The adaptation couldn't save what was already terrible to begin with. Yet, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Pt. 1" hit a new level of awful this weekend, one deserving of every Razzie nomination there is.

The die-hard fans that love the books must realize that the film, which stayed fairly true to the plot, revealed just how terrible of a series Stephenie Meyer created. Bella is as needy and pathetic as ever, only this time she's sex-crazed. I'll concede to say that it was nice to see a film that advocated abstinence among youth for once, but having a girl sob over not being able to bed her husband because of his potential to kill her is just downright ridiculous.

The mothers who want to be closer to their daughters might consider taking them to see something less graphic. The final scenes of the birth were absolutely disturbing for a PG-13-rated film. I can see why it got an R rating at first and I don't think it had much to do with the sex scene. I expected to see a watered-down version of the birth, but the director went all out. Was this "Breaking Dawn" or "Saw VIII"? I honestly couldn't tell by the end of it.

The jokesters that came to laugh at the horrible acting and ruin the experience for genuine fans, while I don't advocate rudeness, probably got the most out of the film because there was plenty to gawk at. There are far too many negative adjectives to describe the effects: corny, cheesy, mediocre and fake to begin with. The very end takes you on a full on blood vessel rollercoaster similar to that of the episode of "The Magic School Bus" when Ms. Frizzle took the kiddies into the human body.

It is a widely known fact that the Twilight films are not good films by any decent standards. Yet, it's managed to garner millions of dollars out of the youth of America and its parents. I wouldn't say it wasn't worth the money because sometimes bonding with your daughter over Taylor Lautner's abs, having a good laugh with clever friends and seeing a book you shamefully hide under your bed come to the screen is priceless.
