Improved conditions in Haiti have led university officials to revise the UF policy for travel to the country where a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in January 2010.
The amended policy, effective Sunday, now permits graduate students to travel to Haiti so long as they have a compelling reason, said David Sammons, dean of the UF International Center.
The new policy does not require UF faculty and staff to get approval from the International Center before traveling to Haiti.
"We've had quite a few graduate students and faculty members return," Sammons said. "And it has reached a point where the restrictions don't seem to be necessary any longer."
Sammons said they will continue to prohibit undergraduates from traveling to Haiti unless they are part of a formal group approved by the university and accompanied by an experienced faculty member.
The travel policy does not apply to any personal travel plans of faculty, staff and students.
