ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon is skeptical about a push to bring casino gambling into the state.

Cannon said Thursday that he remains philosophically opposed to expanding gambling in Florida although he said he will keep an open mind once legislation is actually filed with the Florida Legislature.

The Winter Park Republican said the proposed bill would have to include some type of measures that reduce other types of gambling in order to win his backing.

Earlier this week Senate President Mike Haridopolos said that he's pushing for a vote on legislation that would permit destination gambling resorts. Haridopolos recently took a fundraising trip to Las Vegas and met with casino operators there.

One major gaming company already has staked out a site in downtown Miami.
