Police have arrested a UF alumna for allegedly driving the car that hit a UF student on her bike, leaving her injured.

The Gainesville Police Department arrested Jessica Paige Becerra, 22-year old UF alumna on a third-degree felony charge of hit and run resulting in an injury.

She is being held under a $25,000 bond.

Rebecca Harris, 20, is in serious condition, as of Thursday afternoon, after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle early Saturday morning.

Harris was crossing Southwest 16th Avenue going north at about 12:50 a.m. when she was hit by a white sedan, said officer Ben Tobias, GPD spokesman.

The car kept driving eastbound.

Harris was taken to Shands at UF to be treated for two broken legs, a broken arm and severe head trauma.

Her friends have showed their support on her Facebook wall. Messages such as ”I'm praying for you Becca, you're an amazing friend,” and “We love you Becca! Praying so hard for you!” fill the page.

Her family is now with her at Shands.

“There is definitely brain damage ... but we have hope,” said Catherine Harris, Rebecca’s twin sister, a 20-year-old public relations junior.

She said police found the car, but it was abandoned.

“We are just asking for everyone to keep praying for her,” she said.
