A pantyhose-masked armed robber held an X-Mart Adult Superstore employee at gunpoint early Monday and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m., the man walked into the 24/7 adult entertainment store, located at 3510 SW 13th St., pulled out a handgun and pointed it at an employee, said Sgt. Chris Sims, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The man, who wore a piece of pantyhose over his head like a mask, demanded money from the cash register and ran away from the store with the money before police arrived, Sims said.

Officers searched the surrounding area with K-9 units and could not find him.

“It’s an active investigation,” Sims said.

Police said it appears the man did not steal any items from the store besides the cash and that the pantyhose he wore on his head were his own.

Witnesses told police the man is black and about 6 feet tall with a stocky build. The man was wearing a Michael Jordan jacket at the time of the incident, but witnesses could not describe his face accurately due to the undergarment he wore on his head, Sims said.

The superstore is located less than half a mile away from the Alligator and The Gainesville Sun’s shared space, located at 2700 SW 13th St., and is one of the few adult entertainment shops in Alachua County, along with the Pure Pleasure Megacenter in Hawthorne.

An employee representing X-Mart declined to comment on the incident.
