Delivery service fundraises for food bank

Bite Squad delivery service hopes to take a bite out of hunger in North Central Florida.

The delivery company is partnering with Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, located at 325 NW 10 Ave., and will give $1 per qualifying order to the food bank, which provides supplies to food-insecure people in the area until Nov. 30, said Liz Sniegocki, Bite Squad’s field marketing manager.

Gainesville customers who use the code “MIGHTY” at checkout will get free delivery — up to $10 — and Bite Squad will donate $1 to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Sniegocki said the Food Love program is in six cities Bite Squad serves.

“The Food Love partnership is an opportunity for Bite Squad to be involved in the communities we serve and help bring food love to our neighbors who are battling true hunger,” she said.

Every $1 donated to the food bank helps fund distribution for up to seven meals, said Carla Hill, Bread of the Mighty Food Bank’s development director.

Katey Exum, a UF accounting junior, routinely uses Bite Squad because she says they’re fast and friendly. She said she’s more likely to order from the service again because she wants free delivery.

“Having delivery be free and giving back to the community makes me more inclined to never go get my own food again,” the 20-year-old said.
