A Gainesville man currently faces charges of first-degree child sexual abuse after Gainesville Police, U.S. Marshals and District of Columbia Police worked together to arrest him a week ago.

Authorities said Alan Wade Coleman, 45, received the charges for events that unfolded when he was a teacher in Washington, District of Columbia, about 10 years ago, according to a press release.

During his time in Gainesville, Coleman worked as a teacher and tennis coach at Eastside High School, according to the release. A federal court eventually released Coleman after the arrest.

As of press time, Alachua County court records do not reveal any prior charges against Coleman.

Investigators are now asking the public whether Coleman committed any illicit activity while in Gainesville. Residents can call GPD’s non-emergency line at 352-955-1818 or text anonymous information to 274637 with a tip and the acronym “GPDFL.”
