After a two-week break, UF’s Reitz Union Board Entertainment will resume its regular GatorNights event from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Reitz Union on Friday.

Members of the student-run organization needed time to focus on final exams and graduation, Maggie Sutton, a graduate assistant for RUB, wrote in an email.

“The theme for our first event on May 13 is ‘Aloha Summer’ and will serve as the kick-off to your summer here at UF,” she said.

Sutton said the Union’s builtin outdoor stage, created during the building’s expansion, will be used for the first time. Gainesville musician Ricky Kendall will play one set at 8 p.m. and another at 9 p.m.

“The entire event will take place outdoors on the North Lawn and the North Terrace,” Sutton wrote. “In addition to live music, students can expect free food – like upside down pineapple cupcakes, a surfboard simulator, crafts, and hula dancing lessons.”

Although he’s not planning on attending the upcoming event, John Santelices, a 22-year-old UF microbiology senior, has been to

five previous GatorNights events. “It was a bit too crowded so we had to wait,” he said. “Besides that it was fun.”
