A pedestrian was hit by a car while crossing Northwest 39th Avenue on Thursday, Gainesville Police said.

Travis Hansen, 37, was crossing the street after leaving the Short Stop convenience store, located at 2610 NE 39th Ave., when he was hit by a green Honda driven by a 29-year-old at 7:28 p.m., GPD spokesperson Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

Hansen was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Tobias said.

Officers believe Hansen was crossing the street from north to south and not on a crosswalk, Tobias said.

Tobias said the investigation is still ongoing.
