William G. Hill

A White Springs man who refused to pay for his gas and gum punched the store manager at an Alachua Circle K gas station Wednesday, Alachua Police said.

William G. Hill, 25, threw merchandise off the counter, took gum and put it in his mouth after punching the manager at about 8 a.m., according to an arrest report. He said he wanted to go to jail, the manager told police.

Hill was screaming in the parking lot when police arrived at the gas station, according to the report. Police said Hill would not obey their commands, and one officer drew a stun gun.

Police found a container with marijuana residue on Hill’s person and discovered the car Hill drove to the gas station was reported stolen in Hamilton county, according to a supplement of the arrest report.

He told police he stole the car and did not know the car’s owner, according to the supplement.

Hill was arrested on a felony charge — grand theft auto — and five misdemeanors — battery, shoplifting, disorderly conduct and drug and drug equipment possession. He was taken to Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $97,500 bond.
