UF students can relive their middle-school music memories April 19.
We The Kings, a rock band popularized in the late 2000s, will perform at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Student Government Productions paid the band $18,500, said SGP chairman Bobby Finigan.
Doors open at 7 p.m., he said. No tickets are required for admission.
“My team and I wanted to end the semester with an alternative rock concert, and we believe that We The Kings is the best choice for the price in the alternative rock category,” the 21-year-old UF finance senior said.
The show is open to all students and members of the general public. Up to 1,800 people can attend, which is the Phillips Center’s capacity.
“I think college students will identify with We The Kings,” Finigan said. “They have some old hits out, such as ‘Check Yes Juliet’ and ‘Say You Like Me,’ but then they have some recent hits such as ‘Sad Song’ and ‘Story of Tonight.’”
Alfred Tripodo, a UF mechanical engineering freshman, said his sister introduced him to the band on a mix CD when he was in middle school.
“This is just bringing back good memories,” the 19-year-old said. “I feel like a lot of people grew up with bands like this one.”
