CRC to host virtual career fair for UF alumni, students

In less than a week, current UF students and alumni can network with employers in the comfort of their own bed.

The UF Career Resource Center will host its second annual Just In Time Virtual Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, but the CRC encourages students to upload resumes and cover letters beforehand.

Most registered companies will look for full-time employees, but others will likely offer internships or undergraduate positions, said Monica Moreno, the CRC’s assistant director of industry relations.

“Dress up for your Skype interview if it helps your confidence and puts you in that right state of mind,” Moreno said, “but if you can stay in your PJs, and you can be professional, then I say do what’s best for you.”

Miranda McCown, a 21-year-old UF anthropology senior, said the first fair offered unexpected opportunities.

“It really gave me a wide range of employers that I may not have even contemplated pursuing before,” she said.

About 900 students attended the first fair, which was meant to give more job opportunities to students scheduled for graduation in Summer, Moreno said.

Taylor Petry, a 24-year-old UF tourism, recreation and management junior, said she prefers traditional career fairs.

“I don’t think I can communicate as easily on a computer,” she said.

Information about the event and a link to the registration page is available on its website.
