Former President Jimmy Carter will stand in for his wife Rosalynn Carter who was scheduled to speak about mental health at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts tonight.
The Carter Center confirmed that Jimmy Carter will be filling in for his wife because she fell ill.
Accent Speaker’s Bureau Chairman Corey Flayman said he found out this afternoon that Rosalynn Carter would not be speaking. Flayman and UF spokesman Steve Orlando did not have any more information.
Deanna Congileo, press secretary for the Carters, wrote in an email that the former president offered to fill in for his wife because she felt sick.
“She caught a bug and felt it was best not to travel, so President Carter offered to substitute,” Congileo said.
Carter planned to deliver a speech about her book “Within Our Reach: Ending the Mental Health Crisis,” followed by a discussion with Dr. Nancy Hardt, UF College of Medicine’s director of Health Disparities and Service Learning Programs.
