Minus the Bear made a stop on its national tour Sunday night to rock out in front of a packed UF crowd.

The band, known for its psychedelic indie sound, performed along with opening acts Sylvie and Annuals.

The Reitz Union Board and Student Government Productions paid $15,000 for the show.

The concert brought about 800 students to the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Students huddled around the stage during the three performances.

The room reached its capacity before 8 p.m., and many students were turned away.

Ryan Schmid, a UF law student, said he appreciates the Reitz Union Board's efforts to put on free shows but would rather pay for a ticket in advance than wait in line all day.

"I was in line since 5 o'clock," Schmid said.

UF junior Jerry Rodriguez sat outside the ballroom and offered to buy wristbands from students leaving the concert.

"I think selling tickets at a discounted price is a good idea so people who really want to see the band will be able to," Rodriguez said.

The board tries to bring a band with national appeal to UF every semester. Nada Surf came in the spring.
