Gainesville Police is investigating a trespassing and battery incident involving Florida Rep. Keith Perry while he was on UF’s campus last weekend.

An incident report issued for Perry, a Republican who serves District 21, alleges he got into a fight with a man in the 2200 block of W. University Ave. following the Gators football game, according to a police report.

The incident stemmed from a dispute over a political sign and has since been resolved, Kayla Lott, Perry’s campaign manager, wrote in an email.

“Happy to let you know that this issue has been resolved,” Perry said in a written statement. “After the parties discussed the situation, we agreed that this was based on a misunderstanding, as evidenced by the fact that the complaint has been withdrawn and the sign will be put back up by the property owner.”

However, the official complaint has not been withdrawn, GPD spokesman Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

Perry serves Dixie, Gilchrist and Alachua Counties. He is currently running for the District 8 seat in the Florida Senate against Democratic candidate Rod Smith.

The first page of the police report was released Monday, and the remaining pages are exempt from public disclosure, Tobias said. The released report doesn’t include Perry’s name or the narrative.

No charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made, he said.

“I can confirm that Keith Perry was involved in this incident, and additional details will be released as they become available,” Tobias said.
