Gainesville Police arrested a local man early Sunday morning after he reportedly threw his beer bottle at a car and caused $700 in damages Saturday night.

At about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Julius L. Rumph, 31, stood in the 200 block of SW sixth Ave. drinking a Budweiser beer less than a half-mile from the county’s Criminal Justice Center, according to a police report.

Rumph reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend turn right at a nearby intersection, and he proceeded to throw his glass bottle at her windshield.

The bottle cracked her windshield and then rolled over the car, creating a dent in the roof and deep gash in the roof’s paint, according to the report. The bottle then broke into shards of brown glass across the road.

Rumph and the woman reportedly separated about three months ago, and he was mad about not being allowed to see their three-week-old daughter, according to the report.

Since 2003, Rumph has been found guilty on nine charges of selling or possessing cocaine, along with three charges for resisting an officer and one for domestic battery, according to Alachua County court records.

Police arrested Rumph on charges of firing a missile into a vehicle and criminal mischief and took him to the Alachua County Jail where he was released Monday morning on a $12,500 bond.
