Gainesville Police arrested a local man early Saturday evening after police said he lied to officers about being robbed at gunpoint for $50 and being forced to give oral sex.

Just before 9:40 p.m. Friday, Ronald Darrell Mills Jr., 29, filed an armed robbery/sexual battery report with GPD authorities. He said he had been forced to give a man oral sex and $50, according to a police report.

While authorities questioned someone about the incident, the person denied Mills’ allegations. He said the two had prior sexual encounters several days before.

On Saturday, Mills sent a regret-filled text message to the suspect, according to the report.

"I just want to apologize for what I did last night," he wrote. "I’m dropping the case and nobody knows about this. Please call me bc I wanna talk to you."

"I never wanted this to happen."

During a follow-up interview with police, Mills recanted his original claim, and he said he only filed the report because he was upset with the suspect.

The two got into an argument over Mills’ talking with other people. As of press time, Mills could not be reached for comment.

Just before 6:15 p.m. Saturday, police arrested Mills on charges of giving false information to law enforcement. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where he was released Sunday on his own recognizance.
