After James Edward Irving Jr. got waffles instead of pancakes for his 44th birthday breakfast Sunday morning, police said he poked his partner in the eye.

Irving began fighting with the mother of his two children at about 9 a.m. because he was upset with his birthday presents and breakfast. He then walked outside of their house — located at 2227 SE 11th Ave. — to grab some tools.

Irving then went back inside and poked the woman under her right eye with his finger. The poke left the woman with no visible injury — only mild irritation, a report said.

Irving was arrested on charges of domestic battery. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.

A Gainesville woman chased her boyfriend with a foot-long knife because he didn’t give her the $2 he allegedly owed her Sunday afternoon, police said.

At about 4:30 p.m., 59-year-old Judith Ann Flarity began arguing with the man because she said he owed her money. The man then ripped up the $2 in front of her, which police said angered Flarity. The man said he did not want to give her the money because he thought she would use it to buy crack.

Flarity then chased the man with a foot-long blade outside of their home, located at 1318 SE 7th Ave. The unarmed man said he thought Flarity might kill him.

When Flarity caught up with the man, police said she hit him on the head with the knife handle multiple times, giving him minor bruises.

She was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic battery. She is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
