After inciting a police chase in a stolen car — and later flipping it — a local man was arrested Saturday, Gainesville Police said.

At about midnight, Daryl Timothy Robinson Jr., 27, refused to stop after an officer observed him driving the car in the 2900 block of S. Main St., according to the report.

With the officer’s lights and siren on, Robinson continued driving southbound before heading west on Southwest Williston Road, reaching speeds of about 70 mph, according to the report.

After briefly losing sight of Robinson, the officer found the stolen car flipped on its roof about 100 feet west of the intersection at 1300 SW Williston Road, according to the report. Three passengers, including Robinson, were inside the car.

A second car involved in the accident was found nearby.

As Robinson was pulled from the front passenger window of the stolen car, he declined medical attention, according to the report.

In the driver’s seat of the car, police found a loaded handgun. Police arrested Robinson on charges of grand theft auto, attempting to elude police, reckless driving and not having a valid driver’s license. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $45,000 bond.
