Gainesville Police arrested a woman Tuesday morning in connection with a home invasion and brutal beating of a 78-year-old disabled man.

Maranda J. Martin, 22, has been charged with attempted murder and home invasion robbery with a firearm. Martin came into the police station with her mother around 10 a.m. Tuesday, detective Randy Roberts said.

Martin told police she drove her cousin, Austin M. Jones, to Paul Quandt's house, located at 4854 NW 75 Road in a section of the Blues Creek Community called The Gardens. Martin said she and Jones stole property from Quandt, and that she watched as Jones beat the victim.

Martin worked for Quandt "a couple months ago" as part of a local health-care service, Roberts said. Quandt is still in critical condition at Shands at UF.
