Downtown Gainesville has a new coffee shop.

Patticakes, a local coffee shop and bakery, opened Friday at Bo Diddley Community Plaza and plans to hold a grand opening Tuesday.

With a location already at Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club in Gainesville, the new Patticakes features an expanded menu and plans for a beer-and-wine happy hour, said Tiffany Williams, the shop’s manager.

“We’re excited to try doing things a little differently,” she said.

The grand opening will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“This month is the five-year anniversary of Patticakes,” Williams said. “So it’s a big month for us in many ways.”

Apart from lattes and pastries, the shop offers breakfast and lunch options, including sandwiches and salads, which the original location does not offer.

The shop will open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. this week, but it will extend its hours after Tuesday.

Mandisa Haarhoff, 29, ordered an iced mocha coffee at the shop Wednesday.

The UF doctoral student said the new location was convenient.

“You can grab a quick coffee, do some work and then catch a bus to campus,” she said.
