UF was dubbed the SEC’s “sun and fun capital” and ranked third last week in Playboy’s list of top 10 party schools.

The University of Virginia was ranked No. 1, and the University of Georgia ranked sixth. Florida State University did not make the list.

“I go out at least two times a week,” said Gabe Spinuso, 20, philosophy junior. “I was initially drawn to UF for its educational benefits. Since I’ve come here, I’ve learned to love the nightlife.”

Playboy’s editors picked the top schools, Playboy spokeswoman Shawna Seldon wrote in an email. They spoke with students, alumni, campus representatives and readers to gather feedback.

Seldon said editors measured and compared the schools in three different categories: sex, sports and nightlife.

Editors broke down the categories and focused on factors like male-female student ratios, athletic records, academics, and proximity to recreational hotspots like bars and nightclubs.

To determine the final list, schools were ranked within the original three categories and the results were averaged together.

UF spokesman Steve Orlando would not comment on the ranking.

“I like to go out, but I came here because UF is one of the hardest schools in Florida,” said chemical engineering sophomore Cramsci Choute, 19. “I came here to get a degree.”
