Gainesville Police arrested Orlando resident Elena G. Koltchina, 38, at The Oaks Mall Tuesday for switching sales tags on items and returning them to Dillard's department store for more than they were worth.

Koltchina returned purses, a pair of sunglasses and a shirt on separate occasions. The fraudulent returns totaled $397, according to the arrest report.

When Koltchina was searched, a GPD officer found several hundred sales receipts as well as two books logging her transactions, according to the report.

The documented transactions were for hundreds of returns.

After she was read her Miranda rights, Koltchina told police she "did not know how this happened," her arrest report stated.
