On the edge of the Plaza of the Americas on Wednesday, Swamp Party released  its executive ticket for Spring 2015 Student Government elections.

To a crowd of about 50 students, Swamp Party President and spokesman Ricardo Salabarria announced Joseph Michaels, 21, as Student Body president; Tia Smart, 22, as Student Body vice president; and Hadar Arazi, 20, as Student Body treasurer.

Michaels currently serves as UF Student Senate president. The UF economics and political science senior said he hopes to help make UF a top 10 university and to tackle issues such as tuition increases. As of press time, Swamp Party does not have an official platform established.

“Over the past four years I’ve maintained a continued commitment to our university,” Michaels said.

Smart, a UF political science senior, is a former Leadership Division cabinet chairwoman and Arazi, a UF political science senior, is president of the Jewish Student Union.

“Our ticket represents a qualified, experienced group of students who have demonstrated that regardless of where you come from, you can make a difference at our university,” said Salabarria, 21.

The Student Body president, Student Body vice president, Student Body treasurer and 50 senators representing various academic colleges are elected in Spring elections and serve a one-year term.

Qualifying and slating for Senate and executive candidates will be Feb. 1 from noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom.

SG elections are Feb. 24 and 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
