UF came away from Wednesday and Thursday’s Board of Governors meetings without a new trustee to fill the vacancy, but administrators didn’t leave empty-handed.
UF was one of four Florida universities to receive awards after applying for a technology performance funding pilot about computer science and information-technology-related degree programs. UF, the University of Central Florida, Florida International University and the University of West Florida will each get $3.75 million.
Provost Joe Glover said the money will likely come with instructions on how it can be spent.
“There are many, many areas that contributed to UF winning this money . . . the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, even the College of Fine Arts,” he said. “So they will share in the benefits of it. Exactly how the money gets split up and how it gets used remains to be seen.”
Later on Thursday, the Board of Governors appointed seven people to various universities’ boards of trustees. But UF was not among them.
Vice chair Morteza “Mori” Hosseini said the board delayed UF’s trustee appointment because there was not enough time to finish reviewing the applications.
“We’re going to make sure we have enough in the pool, so we can select the best,” he said.
