Former Florida baseball player Preston Tucker hits a three-run home run in a 9-2 win against Florida State on March 13, 2012. Tucker will join the Houston Astros on Thursday.

One of Florida baseball’s greatest all-time players has earned a call up to the show.

Preston Tucker will be recalled from AAA and join the Houston Astros in Los Angeles for Thursday night’s game against the Angels, the Astros announced.

“Today, I got the best news of my life, and I’ve never been more humbled. Go Astros” Tucker posted to his Twitter account (@PrestonTucker25) Wednesday night at 10:24 p.m.

Tucker, a seventh-round draft pick by the Astros in 2012, was hitting .320 and led all of the minor leagues with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 25 games this year with the AAA-level Fresno Grizzlies.

Tucker played at UF from 2009-12 and holds numerous career records including games played (265), at-bats (1,035), hits (341), doubles (70) and RBI (258). His 57 career home runs are second-best all time behind Matt LaPorta (74).

Tucker was one of nine Gators drafted in 2012. He will join former teammates Paco Rodriguez, Mike Zunino and Anthony DeSclafani in the major leagues along with former Gators David Ross, Darren O’Day and Ryan Raburn.
