Stanford forward Schuyler Rimmer transferred to Florida and will join the UF men’s basketball team as a walk-on, UF announced Wednesday.

Rimmer will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules.

He will be eligible to compete for the Gators following the Fall 2015 semester.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore played in 16 career games for the Cardinal, going 3 of 9 from the field and bringing down 11 rebounds in 75 minutes of action.

Rimmer will join a frontcourt next season that includes sophomore Chris Walker, redshirt junior Alex Murphy, sophomore John Egbunu and freshman Devin Robinson. Egbunu, a 6-foot-11 center, will not play this season after transferring from the University of South Florida.

The Gators also have a recruiting class that includes three forwards who have given their verbal commitments to UF according to Rivals.com — four-star power forward Noah Dickerson, three-star power forward Kevarrius Hayes and three-star strong forward Keith Stone.

Rimmer was a three-star recruit out of Orlando Boone High School in 2013, and during his high school recruitment verbally committed to Florida in August of 2012 before eventually flipping his commitment to Stanford. He averaged 15 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game in his senior year, being named first-team all-state in the process.
