UF picked up its sixth commitment for the 2015 recruiting class Thursday afternoon when Marcus Lewis, a defensive back out of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga College High, verbally committed to Florida, as first reported by Rivals.com.
“IM 100 %COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!! #GatorNation!!!! #FloridaFamily!!!!” Lewis posted Thursday on his Twitter account (@THE_NUMERO_UNO).
Lewis’ high school is located in Washington D.C. — fewer than four miles away from defensive back and early enrollee Jalen Tabor’s alma mater, Friendship Collegiate Academy.
In an interview with Rivals.com, Lewis said his relationship with Tabor influenced his decision.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Lewis helped Washington Gonzaga College High win 14 games in his last two seasons and is currently listed as the No. 8 player in the nation at his position. He is the No. 76 player in the class, according to Rivals.com
He is the second defensive back to join UF’s 2015 class along with Jacksonville Trinity Christian’s Deontai Williams, who committed back in January. The Gators’ current 2015 recruiting class also features three-star wide receiver Deondre Farrier, three-star offensive lineman Tyler Jordan, linebacker Camrin Knight and wide receiver Tristan Payton.
