Jeff Driskel is not returning to Florida next season.

The redshirt junior quarterback confirmed Monday that he will transfer to Louisiana Tech for his final season of collegiate football, UF announced on its website.

"There have been rumors going around that I am going to leave the University of Florida and transfer to Louisiana Tech University for my fifth and final year of eligibility. This is indeed true, and I look forward to the upcoming chapter of my life,’’ Driskel said in a release. "I have nothing but good things to say about the University of Florida and the football program there.

"I am grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me over the course of the past four years. Although things did not play out on the field as I would have liked, I have no regrets on the choice I made to attend UF."

Driskel, who has not started since Florida’s loss to Missouri on Oct. 18, entered Florida’s 28-20 win in the Birmingham Bowl against East Carolina with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter after Treon Harris suffered an elbow injury.

The Oviedo native iced the game with a 9-yard bootleg run, sealing Florida’s first bowl game win since the 2011 season in the process.

"I think it says a lot about him as a person," interim head coach D.J. Durkin said following the game.

"The amount of adversity he’s had to go through in his career, to be honest, I don’t know if I could last through that."

Driskel will be able to play immediately for Louisiana Tech since he received his undergraduate degree in August.
