Nicole DeWitt bats during UF's 2-1 win against UNF on April 1, 2015, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

With a runner on second, UCF catcher Cassady Brewer swung at the first pitch she saw.

She roped a ground ball just past the outstretched glove of Florida second baseman Hannah Adams, bringing teammate Aubrey Johnson home for the contest’s only run.

Brewer enjoyed a 3-for-3 day and recorded a first-pitch hit in each of her at-bats as she led the Knights (25-13) to a 1-0 victory over the No. 4 Gators (32-5) at the UCF Softball Complex on Wednesday night.

The loss ended UF’s nine-game winning streak over the Knights and dropped its record in true road games this season to 5-4.

Florida pitcher Aleshia Ocasio (14-3) pitched a relatively clean game, allowing just five hits and no walks on 75 pitches.

However, her low pitch count came as a result of UCF looking to attack early in its at-bats. All five of the Knights’ hits came on counts under four pitches and only three at-bats exceeded five pitches.

Ocasio’s counterpart, Alea White (19-8), didn’t navigate through the game as cleanly, but pitched a complete game shutout. She allowed six base runners on five walks and one hit and picked up her 19th victory, good for second in the nation behind Michigan’s Meghan Beaubien (20-2).

The defense behind White stood solid all night, playing errorless softball to keep the Gators off the base paths.

In the top of the fifth, Florida did threaten White’s shutout after right fielder Jaimie Hoover started the inning with a leadoff walk and was later joined on the bases by left fielder Amanda Lorenz, who walked with one out.

However, third baseman Nicole DeWitt grounded into a fielder’s choice that ousted the lead runner, and first baseman Kayli Kvistad flew out to left field, quelling the danger.

DeWitt also recorded UF’s only hit, a two-out double in the third, but Kvistad followed her with another fly out to left.

The Gators will try to bounce back in a weekend series beginning Saturday in Tuscaloosa, where they will face off with the No. 15 Crimson Tide.
