Coach Bryan Shelton and the No. 12 Florida men’s tennis team are more than ready to begin play at the ITA National Indoors Championships this weekend in Houston.

UF clinched its berth into the event with the 4-2 win against TCU on January 26th at the ITA Kickoff.

Despite Florida’s 3-0 record to start the season, the team fell in two straight matches in Los Angeles against UCLA and USC on Feb. 1-2.

The two losses showed the team that it still have a lot of work to do.

“We definitely got some great information about ourselves and two very good teams in UCLA and USC” Shelton said.

“Now we have to do something with that information and close the gap.”

The team will kick off the tournament Friday at 10 a.m. against No. 5 Ohio State.

“They’re perennially a very good team — one of the top teams in the country year-in and year-out” Shelton said.

Florida is seeking to reach the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship finals for the first time since 2003, as well as its first title at the event.

Said Shelton: “This team is hungry and ready to do what it takes.”

Florida’s next dual match comes against Florida State on Feb. 26.
