Well, she’s not in Gainesville any more. In fact, she’s headed about as far away as she possibly can while playing professional soccer in the United States.

Seattle Reign FC picked Gainesville native and now former Gator soccer great Havana Solaun 15th overall in the National Women’s Soccer League draft on Friday at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Philadelphia.

Solaun was one of two Seattle picks in this year’s draft.

The midfielder, a graduate of Buchholz High School, has been a standout soccer player in Gainesville from an early age all the way through her four strong years with the Gators. Solaun earned All-Southeastern Conference first team honors in 2013 and 2014, and as a senior this past fall she recorded career highs in goals (nine), assists (nine) and points (27).

Solaun was among the group of eight seniors who bid farewell to the Gators program last fall with a loss in the NCAA Quarterfinals. She finished 10th all-time in Gator history in goals (30), sixth in assists (32) and tied for eighth in points (92).

Solaun graduated in December with her bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Now she prepares for the next chapter of her life in Seattle as a professional soccer player.
