For UF’s 2016 International Education Week, there are currently two winning exhibitions on display in Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art, located in the lobby of Grinter Hall. The Global Photo Competition Exhibit, displayed from Nov. 2 through Nov. 30, is sponsored by both the University International Center and the UF School of Art and Art History.

The 2016 contest is the 13th annual installment of the Global Photo Competition, and its entries focus on “portraying the theme of ‘Global Culture,’” according to the UF International Center website.

In this year’s contest, the winners of the international students, scholars and employees contest subset are Jiantao Shen in first, Ling Fan, taking second place and Tianyuan Xiao taking third place.

The winners of the study-abroad and service-learning students contest subset are Robert Sato taking first place, Alan Alvarez de Sotomayor taking second place and Andrea Paulina Cornejo taking third place.

Finally, the winners of the faculty, staff, and alumni competition subset are Elizabeth Wood in first place, Tyler Standifer in second place and Ryan Jones in third place.

The “Good Things Come in Small Packages” exhibit will also run in Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art until Nov. 30. The exhibit is a collaborative exhibition between the graphic design and ceramics departments of the UF School of Art and Art History and the graphic design and design sculpture departments of China’s Wuhan Textile University College of Art.

This exhibition celebrates the creative accomplishments of contributing artists and highlights the value of international cooperation and support. “Good Things Come in Small Packages” was organized through artist and UF School of Art and Art History professor Anna Calluori Holcombe, who holds a position as a visiting scholar with the Wuhan Textile University College of Art.

“(I am) very excited that we have been able to bridge this event and be involved with International Week,” Calluori Holcombe said.

With exhibits running in both China and the U.S., “Good Things Come in Small Packages” certainly fits well with the purpose of International Education Week. The pieces displayed in the exhibit are the works of graduate students and faculty, collaborating to create dynamic installations and, as Calluori Holcombe said, “show how artists can work together.”
