High Dive to hold ‘90s tribute night

On Saturday, High Dive will be celebrating the ‘90s with two tribute bands ready to bring the house down.

High Dive will have Weeze, a local Weezer tribute band, performing with Grind, an Alice in Chains tribute group based out of South Carolina.

The concert will be held from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., with doors opening at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, with a $3 fee charged at the door for those under the age of 21. Grind is scheduled to open the show, followed by Weeze to bring it home.

Weeze is made up of four members: Niles Austin on guitar and vocals; Kenneth Noble on drums; Jacob McCravy on bass and vocals; and Jon McCravy on guitar, keys and vocals. The band came together in 2013 over a mutual love of Weezer and playing music.

Jon McCravy said he and the band “try to stay true to the record 90 percent of the time,” but they “take liberties into making some of the songs (their) own.”

Grind’s lead singer Gary Allen said the band’s four members are all about staying true to Alice in Chains and work hard to stay authentic. The band is comprised of Allen, guitarist Rob Montebello, bassist Billy Price and drummer David Corbett.

Although Grind isn’t local, they have a significant link to the community. When Allen’s daughter was born with life-threatening complications, she was treated at UF Health Shands Hospital. For Allen, this show is about giving back to Gainesville.

“The University of Florida indirectly saved my daughter’s life,” Allen said.
