San Cisco’s new album is the perfect summer listen

San Cisco, an Australian originated Indie band, brings a new, fun sound to the summer as they introduce their new album San Cisco to the world on July 16. San Cisco contains fresh, hip songs reminiscent of tunes by Vampire Weekend and The Neighbourhood. With a prevalent beat and soft, somewhat distanced vocals by Jordi Davidson and Scarlett Stevens, the album has a great summer sound.

The thirteen track album has a retro, laid back vibe with relatable songs about relationship struggles (“Nepal”), depression (“Wild Things”), and other problems that most teenagers face. Their most well-known song on the album “Awkward” contains the crisp vocals of both Davidson and Stevens and contains an interesting perspective on relationships, illustrating stalking from both the view of the obsessive ex-boyfriend and the worried ex-girlfriend.

The album not only has a variety of song topics though. It also contains songs that range from extremely calm and cool to upbeat and exciting. “Lyall” is definitely one of the songs to contain a fun, uplifting sound. Davidson’s voice rises and drops in cadences.  The songs contain a lot of entertaining, abstract sounds which add to their appeal when accompanied by the smooth vocals. In the background the metered beat of the guitar thrums consistently to create a beach vibe in many of the songs like “Metaphors” and “Stella.” The drum work also sounds tropical which is especially evident in “Rocket Ship.” “Nepal” and “Hunter” both have soft, slow beats, but still contain a lot of power within the force of the vocals which crescendo with rise in power with the momentum of the songs.

Songs like “Beach” and “Stella” also have beach themed with lyrics such as “your hearts down, down in the ocean. Don’t get burned, put on your sun lotion” again adding to the summer vibe of the album.

With fantastic vocals, a summer theme, and an uplifting beat, the album definitely is a great set to listen to while partying at the beach or just relaxing at home to get you in the summer mood.
