Summer is here and the heat is to the point of melting when you step outside. Florida heat makes wearing makeup one of the most uncomfortable things in the world. These are some of my “go to” tips and tricks for wearing make up in the summer- hopefully without melting.

Balance your make up. We don’t want to look so colorful that we look like clowns. I think summer brights are stunning and such a confidence booster. If you choose to rock these bright colors as a slight smokey eye, keep your lips light and natural with a pretty gloss. If you choose to wear a bright lip, keep your eyes simple with just a touch of natural color of the lid.

Keep your face clean and well moisturized. Since we are sweating, makeup may tend to sit on the skin and move around. Don’t be lazy and skip washing your face before bed, leaving any makeup on at bed time is a sure recipe for breakouts. Every morning before putting on makeup and every night before bed use your favorite facial cleanser and moisturizer to clean your face. I know my favorite part of the day, the moment I rinse my face with some cold water after a hot day.

Make using primers a priority. Both facial and eye primers will hold the make up in place. In the infamous Florida humidity, primers will help hold makeup on even through the sweat.

Last but not least, protect your skin. No one ever realizes how important SPF is until we are burnt or worse. If your moisturizer has SPF in it, do not use makeup with SPF, as the SPF will decrease. When out in the sun, always use sunscreen. We all want that summer glow, but protecting your skin with some sort of SPF should be a priority. If you only take away one thing from this post, please make it this tip. Protect your skin!

Take these tips and beat the summer heat. Go rock those bright lips or blue eyeshadow, whatever you prefer. Hopefully you won’t be like Olaf in summer… melting!
