Incoming freshman Michael Fiore signed with UF, the Gators announced Wednesday.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native will come to Gainesville as one of the top high school runners in the state. Representing the Flying L’s of Ft. Lauderdale High School in both cross country and track, Fiore has picked up a litany of awards and top finishes throughout his career. In 2019 he was named Broward County Cross Country Runner of the year by the Sun Sentinel after winning every meet and invitational he ran in that year.

His best finish in the state meet was his junior year in 2019 as he finished 9th in the FHSAA 4A State Championship meet with a time of 15:55.08. He was also Broward county champion in the 3200m at the BCAA meet with a time of 10:03.45

An impressive distance runner who also ran the 1600m in high school, Fiore will enter the program on the heels of a less-than-stellar cross country campaign for the Gators, which recently ended with a 7th finish at the SEC Championship meet.
