Former Gator quarterback Tim Tebow to join Jaguars

Tebow expected to sign a one-year contract with Jacksonville as a tight end

Tim Tebow is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tim Tebow is headed home to Duval. As a tight end.

The former Florida quarterback returns to the NFL after a six-year hiatus and a brief stint with the New York Mets in the MiLB.

Tebow reportedly worked out with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but not for his Heisman worthy quarterback skills. The former first-round pick plans to sign a one-year deal and reunite with his college coach Urban Meyer as a tight end.

The duo set prominent football records for UF -- including two BCS National Championships. Tebow took home the 2007 Heisman Trophy in his historic collegiate career, the first sophomore to do so.

The 33-year-old was drafted 25th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. Tebow went 9-7 as the Broncos' starting quarterback before joining the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. He then found himself playing baseball in orange and blue with the Mets.

"I have one job and that is to win games with the Jacksonville Jaguars," Meyer said. "If Tim Tebow or Travis Etienne can help us win, then that's my job to get them ready to go play. That decision is certainly not made yet."

With former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence stepping up to the plate as quarterback, Tebow looks to solidify his spot as a tight end.

The deal is expected to be official after the team's three-day rookie minicamp that begins on Friday.
