Alachua County nears 100 COVID-19 cases; Florida cases jump by almost 1,000

As Florida’s confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to soar, Alachua County’s cases are slowly inching toward 100. 

The Florida Department of Health reported a total of 95 cases this evening, with the three latest cases all being Florida residents: a 49-year-old female, a 19-year-old female and 55-year-old male, according to a daily report from the department. 

Gainesville carries the majority of the county’s confirmed cases with a total of 75, according to the daily report. There are also six cases in Alachua, four cases in Newberry, two in Tioga and Micanopy and one in High Springs. 

No new positive cases at UF were reported today. 

Florida’s cases jumped by almost 1,000 since earlier today, passing the 9,000 mark this evening. Forty-four new deaths were also reported today across dozens of counties across the state.
