Alachua Police Department responded to a report that a man had been shot in Alachua early Tuesday morning.

Police arrived at the Circle K gas station, located at 15089 NW U.S. Highway 441, to find a man who had been shot three times in the upper body, according to a police press release. The man told police he and two other passengers had traveled from a Waffle House in Alachua to a location at Northwest 147th Lane and Northwest 134th Terrace, where they were approached by a male suspect who demanded money while holding a gun.

The suspect fired three shots, stole approximately $600 from the man’s pocket and fled the scene. The two other passengers also fled the area. The man who had been shot walked approximately a half a mile to the Circle K gas station to seek help, according to the press release.

The man was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in stable condition. At time of publication, the investigation is still on-going. APD said neither the suspect nor the man who was shot seem to have ties to the Alachua area. The suspect has not been located.
