The last time Jessica Diestel saw Garth Brooks was when he took the stage at the Amway Center in Orlando two years ago.

Now, Diestel, a 32-year-old Gainesville resident, said she’ll buy tickets to see Brooks again — this time in The Swamp. The country music artist will give a show in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at 7 p.m. on April 20, according to the University Athletic Association.

“He puts on a fantastic show,” said Diestel, a fan of Brooks almost all her life.

This concert will be the first in the stadium in about 25 years, since the Rolling Stones performed as a part of the band’s Voodoo Lounge Tour, the press release said.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday on Ticketmaster and cost $82.35 each, the press release said. A service charge of $7.25 and $5.35 in taxes will bring the total up to $94.95 with a purchase limit of eight tickets per person. Tickets will not be sold at the stadium’s box office.

The Gainesville stop is part of the Garth Brooks Stadium Tour.

Brooks has won the Country Music Association’s award for Entertainer of the Year and is famous for Billboard-topping songs like “Friends in Low Places,” “Two Pina Coladas” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes.”

Will Pantages, the assistant director of communications at the University Athletic Association referred media questions to Brooks’ public relations agency.

Aron Gerson, a representative of the agency in charge of Brooks’ public relations, Nancy Seltzer and Associates Inc., declined to answer questions about the venue choice.

Diestel said she is excited for the venue to open again for future artists.

“I think the stadium will be a lot more enjoyable for the fans,” she said. “It’ll be a bit more intimate than his other tour stops and will allow a chance for everyone to feel close to the stage.”
