With all of the changes the world has endured as of late, it’s no wonder plenty of people have moved back in with Mom and Dad. And by plenty of people, I mean me. All this time spent around them allowed me to look at their relationship and consider it’s beginnings. As their story goes (which they love to tell), the two met at work. Dad asked Mom what she was doing later that day as to gauge how free she’d be for a work-related task. Her response? “Why? Are you taking me out tonight?”

It would be an understatement to say that these have been somewhat divisive times. These days, we are facing the politicization of the killing of BIPoC, wearing masks in public and everything in between. On top of all this, we are in the midst of an election year, which of course only aids the bitter divide that seems to grow larger every four years. Dating apps. We’ve all been there. They have become an integral part of the college experience. Every year, millions of college students travel far and wide to take a weeklong break from responsibility. That’s right — we’re talking spring break. The lore surrounding this magical time of Spring semester has been explored through film and, of course, YA romance novels. But do these idyllic storylines exist in the real world?

February 14th. Every year, the day is met with disdain, joy, regret and, of course, that four-letter word. A holiday all about love can feel like a real sucker punch for those who are single, but for those who are spoken for, how do you celebrate?

What comes to mind when you hear the term “are we or aren’t we” in a relationship? For many college students, it's widely understood. Even your humble columnist has been involved in this gray area, which can be messy to navigate. Are we friends? Are we more? What does it mean that I’ve slept at your house for three days straight now? Merely bringing up the conversation can be excruciating; no one wants to do it, yet everyone wants the answer.
