She was working at a computer next to me the first time I saw her, and the glowing monitor made her face shine a little bit. She stood up, ignored me and I took the time to get a good look at her. She wasn’t tall, but her hair was long and wispy. She had a smile and laugh that carried through the room. I shook her hand when I introduced myself hoping she wouldn’t notice I couldn’t catch my breath. That was a crush.

The litl is a big idea from a small computer company based in Boston. In its purest form, it’s a computer so simple to use that you don’t have to spend an irritatingly long hour explaining the way it works to your grandmother - she can (gasp) figure it out on her own right out of the box.

You may not know who John Patrick Shanley is, but you may have heard of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning author’s famous melodrama “Doubt,” recently brought to the silver screen.

Sometimes extraordinary things come from ordinary people - in ordinary places. Will Thomas, 33, a common man with sharp blue eyes, works prep at The Top and plays the drums in local band Grabass Charlestons. He gets up early enough to listen to the birds on his way to work and NPR when he gets there. On this particular Tuesday morning, while working in the silver, cluttered kitchen behind shelves of clunky metal pots and pans, the UF grad knew something was wrong.

I get it. You're in a band. What I don't understand is why you think everyone wants to know (or cares).

Matt Kurz is a busy man. He’s the lead singer of the Matt Kurz One. And also the bassist, guitarist and keyboardist. Kurz sings scratchy, intense punk funk songs with a fiery slant reminiscent of The Who and James Brown.

Cursive, an indie-rock band from Omaha, Neb., is playing at Common Grounds on Sunday. The band is on Saddle Creek records, a record label best known for another Omaha act, Bright Eyes. Its latest album, “Mama, I’m Swollen,” was released in March, and they played the “Late Show with David Letterman” that same month. The Avenue got the chance to talk to bass player Matt Maginn about playing on TV, the band’s sound and his favorite Nirvana record.

Disk jockey BBP’s Friday night lights are green lasers and strobes. Behind the booth, he is seven caged tigers condensed into one man. He plays music out of a classic Buick cut in half behind a bar at club Spannk. Completely in control of the massive, pumping sound and the young, hot partygoers, he can turn the crowd from a breeze to a sandstorm in about a half-second. In his nondescript black “BBP” cap and shirt and with neatly trimmed facial hair, he punctuates every collision of hand to button with a full body thrust.

The cast of the new Comedy Central show "Secret Girlfriend" want to be your best friends, literally. The show is shot in an unheard of first-person view, and you are the main character.

Michael Claytor does not sound like he looks. He does not look like he sounds. And in the crosshairs of this odd interchangeability is the fact that he is probably the nicest person I have ever met.

"Mystery Team" is the story of three high school virgins stuck as their 7-year-old Encyclopedia Brown-type personalities. Kind of like my life, but with actual cases to solve and not just wishful thinking. The three friends ride matching bikes and harass 6-year-olds. In fact, they get in trouble for forcefully removing a kid from the playground and teaching him a lesson about putting his fingers in things.

It is not difficult to describe the palpable excitement of a Gators game day here in Gainesville. Imagine the day you were born and the first time you looked into your mother's eyes. The true and immediate comfort. The sense of belonging. Game day is like that, but with more orange.

At the intersection of expectation and reality you can sometimes end up at disappointment street. You can look forward to something so much that it will never live up to the idea you had in your brain. A shame, really.

Caitlin Nicole Eadie has more in common with Hannah Montana than she'd ever like to admit.
