We have a two-for-one special this week on Know Your Enemy! I had the opportunity to speak with both Jason Wyrick, the executive producer of Rock Solid Sports at UT’s student radio station, WUTK Radio, and Josh Lane, the sports editor of the Tennessee’s student newspaper, Daily Beacon. With Florida’s fourth game of the season against Tennessee on Saturday in The Swamp, here’s what they had to say about the Volunteers.

The story coming into 2020 surrounding Florida’s defense revolved around the secondary and its numerous questions. While that’s completely fair after an historically poor pass defense in 2020 (257.5 passing yards allowed per game), the run defense seemed to be left out of discussion.

The 90,887 fans in attendance on Sept. 18 in The Swamp roared the lyrics to Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” as if they were trying to will their team to victory.

The Florida Gators needed one stop to get the ball back to their offense. On third and 2 with 90,887 fans rocking, the Alabama Crimson Tide put the ball into the gut of their running back Brian Robinson Jr., who fell past the sticks to clinch the 31-29 victory.

After last week’s 42-20 triumph over USF, the Florida Gators face a Goliath task Saturday as the Alabama Crimson Tide come to town. I reached out to Ashlee Woods, sports editor of The Crimson White, for this week’s edition of Know Your Enemy to get the rundown on the Tide.

After two early season victories against inferior opponents, the No. 13 Florida Gators face their first test of 2021 against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday. The Tide storms into The Swamp off blowout wins over the Miami Hurricanes and Mercer, and the top team in the country opens as 15-point favorites in Gainesville.

Fresh off a 35-14 thrashing of the Florida Atlantic Owls, the Florida Gators head to Tampa, Florida in another intrastate matchup against the South Florida Bulls Saturday at 1 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium.

After taking down the Florida Atlantic Owls in Week 1, the Florida Gators head south to battle the South Florida Bulls. The Alligator reached out to Richard Silva, the Sports Co-Editor of the USF Oracle, to learn more about the USF program and his expectations for this season. Here is what he had to say:

With Saturday’s matchup against South Florida seemingly a cupcake game after USF’s 45-point loss to North Carolina State last week, it could be easy for the Florida Gators to overlook the Bulls, especially with the threatening Crimson Tide looming in the near distance.

Redshirt senior running back Malik Davis broke free, sprinting down the sideline for a 31-yard gain on the night’s fourth play. For the first time since 2019, 86,840 Gator fans roared in approval in a packed Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

As prolific as the Florida Gators were on offense in 2020, they may have been just as bad defensively. Florida’s defense allowed nearly 31 points per game last season, including giving up 52 points to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. The Gators surrendered 428 yards per game as well. After departures of top offensive talent, this defensive unit needs to bounce back in 2021 if the team is to be successful.

In the age of the NCAA transfer portal, highly touted high school quarterbacks don’t typically ride the pine for long. They either take the reins of the school they initially committed to, or they ship their talents elsewhere and head for greener pastures.

The 2020 Florida Gators offense set the SEC ablaze through the air. Quarterback Kyle Trask, tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Kadarius Toney led the Gators to an SEC Championship appearance. The historic offense averaged nearly 40 points and 510 yards per game. Florida’s success revolved around its passing game, as UF averaged an SEC-leading 388 passing yards per game in 2020.
(08/19/21 6:47pm)
The Florida Gators kept most of their offensive plans under lock-and-key this offseason as they transitioned from prototypical pocket quarterback Kyle Trask to the more mobile and elusive Emory Jones.

Florida football officially opened up fall camp Friday, and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, cornerback Kaiir Elam and linebacker Mohamoud Diabate all echoed the same sentiment.
