A vigil was held on June 3 in honor of George Floyd and other lives lost from the black community. Attendees grieved before an altar made of flowers, candles and photos of victims.

Amir Zafaranian, 19, is a third year UF Biology and Spanish double major on the pre med track. He is currently taking prerequisite courses for medical school online.; Introduction toBiochemistry and Molecular Biology. “I’m probably not going to get as much out of it," he said. "I know people who are taking a semester off because they feel like they are not going to be prepared for med school even if they get the A.”

Evan Chemelli, 25, works at Dunkin’ and describes work to now be “different than before, we are taking a lot more precautions, you know, with gloves and making sure everything is safe for everybody.” He added that it is important for customers to know that “we are trying our hardest to make sure everyone is staying safe and everything we are doing, we are doing for a reason.”
Melanie Cassey, 26, is an employee at Zaxby’s and said “the biggest thing has just been that, you know, we’re still busy, that doesn’t change.” Drive-thru workers take more precautions with passing food to customers.

All services were provided strictly under CDC and FDA guidelines, according to J.D. Chester, the owner of several bars in Midtown.
More than 100 people gathered on the corner of West University Avenue and Northwest 17th Street after several businesses in Midtown reopened on Saturday. Customers were not required to wear face masks, although all staff members did. Pita Pit, Relish and Midtown Pizza served food for patrons while Fat Daddy’s, JJ’s Tavern and The Rowdy Reptile provided an outdoor bar.
