UPD, support groups talked to students about consent and Halloween costumes
Alissa Adam, a 21-year-old UF women's studies and African-American studies senior, reads off some of the myths and facts of domestic violence during the My Costume is Not Consent tabling event at the Plaza of the Americas Wednesday afternoon. This event was hosted by the UFPD Office of Victim Services. Volunteers like Adam represented 11 other organizations that deal with domestic violence and its effects in the Gainesville area.

Entering the Gaytes of Hell
The Orlando band Boston Marriage opens Queer the Fest: Gaytes of Hell music festival Thursday night at the Civic Media Center. Nine bands performed in total. Proceeds from the event went to Madres Sin Fronteras, Freedom Fund and Trans Lifeline, who help LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities.

Trowell earned the titles of best dancer, best outfit and was the overall winner of the competition. The prize for the winner is a spot dancing at the University Club on Friday night, a performing spot at Gainesville Pride on Saturday and a guest performance spot dancing at The Copa Nightclub in Ocala, Florida.

Melissa Montero, an 18-year-old biomedical engineering freshman, channels smiling energy toward her heart during a guided meditation at Marston Science Library Wednesday morning. This guided meditation event is comprised of six sessions, each focusing on a different type of meditation. Two more sessions will be held at the library on the first and third Wednesday of November.

The event, “Walking to Palestine,” had over 50 attendees gather to hear Ladraa's story of walking 3,000 miles from Sweden to Palestine to shed light on human rights violations against Palestinians. It took place at the Civic Media Center Wednesday evening.

Ladraa shows the map of his 3,000 mile trek on foot from his home country of Sweden to Palestine. After reading about the injustices experienced by the Palestinian people, Ladraa decided to make the 11-month journey to bring awareness to human rights violations. "I know that most people don't know the story of Palestine," Ladraa said, "I just want the violence to stop and human rights to be respected."
