The Gators’ recent quarterback controversy might have been solved prematurely.
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Trask went down in practice Wednesday with a non-contact injury, according to a report by 247Sports. The report said Trask was carted off the practice field with an injury to his lower body.
Trask became the center of a recent quarterback controversy after relieving starter Feleipe Franks with five minutes remaining in the third quarter of Florida’s 38-17 loss to Missouri on Saturday. Trask ended the day 10-of-18 for 126 yards and a touchdown pass to Josh Hammond. Franks finished the game 9-of-22 for 84 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The team has yet to issue a statement on the alleged injury. Team officials have not yet responded to requests for comment from The Alligator.
The team released its official depth chart ahead of its Saturday matchup with South Carolina with Franks in as the No. 1 quarterback.
Coach Dan Mullen was noncommittal on a starter moving forward as of Monday, though he seemed to lean in Franks’ favor.
“Honestly, I think they graded within one point of each other,” Mullen said at Monday’s press conference. “…Feleipe probably has a little stronger arm, probably a little more athletic. Trask might be a little more physical when he runs the ball."
